U.S. Secretary of Labor Martin “Marty” Walsh visited the American GI Forum-National Veterans Outreach Program (NVOP) https://www.agif-nvop.org/ in San Antonio on August 30, 2022. Meeting with Secretary Walsh in a roundtable discussion were members of the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Veteran Employment Services (VES) South District team. “At the roundtable, TVC VES staff showcased the partnerships in Military City USA (San Antonio), the relationships with DOL (Department of Labor) programs, and service delivery to veterans in the area,” said Laurie Pimentel-Johnson, TVC VES South Texas District Outreach Coordinator and Army veteran.

Also participating in the roundtable were veterans who have benefited from a DOL program such as training, employment or apprenticeship.

Walsh discussed various topics regarding veterans and their barriers to employment.

The event provided the opportunity for TVC VES  to discuss with the Walsh concerns regarding assisting veterans and any challenges TVC or partners may encounter while providing employment assistance. Further discussion was held on what could be helpful in providing veterans an envelope of services in one location.

In attendance with Lozano and Renninger was South Texas District Manager and Marine Corps veteran Al King.
